Listening. The easiest skill to practice alone

If practicing speaking is terrible to do by yourself, then listening is terribly easily. You don't need a partner to practice speaking with (although, it is helpful) and it's a piece of cake to find listening materials from every corner of the English speaking world. Woohoo! But wait! Stop passively listening and make sure that you start actively listening.

Not so fast!

Listening passively means you do nothing except listen, you don't repeat anything, you don't take notes... You. Just. Listen. Sometimes your only option is to listen passively, buuut I think you actually have much more time to listen actively than you might think! So then what is active listening exactly? Active listening is repeating what you hear (especially difficult or new words), taking notes, and quizzing yourself along the way . As you can imagine, active listening is much more helpful and there is a lot of research that supports this claim . No matter what you're listening to, remember that you can almost always do it actively!
